20th Century: 1930-1939

As we enter the 1930s, a decade inspired by the “Hollywood” look is taking its hold on the world, and who doesn’t want to look like the celebrities?

The 30 decade is very similar to some of the earlier decades. We see the idea of the boyish look combined with the more feminine curves, as dresses become more form fitted again, but still conservative and simple.

The fashion starts to show off more of the ideal woman, with the slim waistline and the long torso and legs, which you can still have, even if you are considered a short person. It’s about choosing the right outfit, to create the illusion of a long torso and long legs.

The fabric did though stay on the more flowing way, with the slightly loose look and the well known Bias cut became the new hot thing.

Bias cut silk dresses with a low back was every fashion woman’s go to evening dress from designers like Chanel and Vionnet.

But it wasn’t only the evening wear that took a change. Daywear returned to these dresses in this romanticism and femininity style with the slim waist and skirts ending between the knees and ankles.

Patterns of the fabric had taking a change for the more dramatic as well, with floral, plaid, dots, and even abstract prints, like zebra stripes.

Patterns which still are used today in so many new, fashionable ways.

So let’s come back to the now and look at what we still can wear and even do wear as the modern fashionista.

We love our patterned fabric, making a statement out of the choices that we make, but the one this that is still exactly the same as back then, is the Bias cut dress.

The beautiful Bias cut silk dress is everywhere in the world, making women still feel this thrill of how beautiful women in the 30s must have felt, with either bright breathtaking colors or the more simplified, yet sexual nude and natural colors.

Next week, we will jump forward into a time yet again of war, but still fashionable in it’s own unique way.

Take care and stay safe. Kisses.
